Gainesville School holds information session on proposed 75-cent levy increase
Close to 70 people attended Monday night’s informal information session at Gainesville High School regarding the 75-cent levy increase proposal that will appear on the Aug. 7 primary election ballot. The increase would bring the school levy from the state minimum of $2.75 to $3.50, still one of the lowest in the county, with Dora standing at $3.61 and Bakersfield at $4.56. Gainesville superintendent Jeff Hyatt, right, fielded questions from audience members and presented a long list of improvements and renovations needed at both the 25-year-old elementary school and the high school, which was built in 1963, along with plans for a new 7,800-square-foot FEMA shelter building. See next week’s Times for more information on the tax levy proposal.
