21st annual Bakersfest is Saturday

Richard Sigler is donating this custom-made guitar to raffled this week to benefit Bakersfest and its car show.

The streets of Bakersfield will be humming like an old Buck Owens song, come Saturday.

The 21st annual Bakersfest will be held at Bakersfield Pride Park in downtown Bakersfield, complete with a car show, craft booths, games, music, food and a city-wide yard sale.

Organizers are hoping for good weather as the all-day event kicks off around 9 a.m.

The West Plains Car Club will once again host a big car show in conjunction with the festival. The car show will be held downtown along AR Highway.

Bakersfield residents who want to participate in the city-wide yard sale won’t have to pay a set-up fee or buy a yard sale permit, organizers say.

The ballgames in Pride Park that usually accompany the event will not be held during this year’s festival.

The event is kind of like a homecoming of sorts, organizers said. They invite the entire community to come out and take part in the fun.

In addition, organizers Melba Mullins, Carol Bales, Dianna Stover and Richard Chamberlain are asking folks in the area to consider helping with Bakersfest and other community events like the Fourth of July activities and the Christmas parade and breakfast with Santa.

“After 21 years of this, we’re feeling our age and we need your help,” a flyer for the event said.

For more information, contact Mullins at 417-284-8134, Bales at 417-284-3782 or Stover at 417-284-3739.
