City council awards bids for cold mix, resealing square

The Gainesville City Council held three bid openings during its June 9 council meeting. 

• Facia repair–The first was for repairing facia on City Hall. There were no bids submitted. 

• Resealing the square–The second bid opening was for resealing the Gainesville square. Two bids were submitted. MoArk Asphalt of West Plains submitted a bid for $24,000 to do the prep, crack fill, seal coat and re-striping on the square. They also provided two other options, a longer lasting slurry seal, for $60,000, and a full mill and repave project for $219,000. MLH & Sons of Gainesville also submitted a bid for $19,606.65 for seal coating and striping, but noted that the city employees would be responsible for the prep work including removal of any debris located within the project area. The council voted unanimously to accept MoArk Asphalt bid for $24,000.

• Cold mix– The third bid opening was for purchasing cold mix. There were three bids submitted: Cary Stewart bid 15 tons of cold mix delivered from West Plains at $2,400. Spencer Skyles of Ava bid 19 tons of cold mix, which includes delivery to Gainesville from Lebanon, for $2,696. MLH & Sons of Gainesville bid 15 tons, which includes delivery to Gainesville from Lebanon, for $2,197.50. The council voted unanimously to accept Spencer Skyles’ bid of 19 tons for $2,696, noting that it was the cheapest bid per ton. Meeting attendee Ray Grisham mentioned that he had been getting cold mix from White River Materials in Midway, Arkansas, and maintenance supervisor Mike Davis said they will look into it because the city may transition to purchasing a load at a time from that company in the future with the city hauling it back themselves, as it is so much closer.
