Lady Bulldogs 4-2 last week (April 26, 2023)

Meanwhile, the Gainesville Lady Bulldogs softball team had a busy week last week playing six games. The Lady Bulldogs went 4-2 on the week, beating Winona and Bakersfield on Tuesday.

The Gainesville girls opened up the Salem Softball Classic on April 22 with losses to Mountain Grove and Dixon, before winning their final two games of the tourney over Plato and Bourbon.

In the game against Winona, Gainesville won big 17-0. “Sailor pitched a great game and we hit the ball well up and down the line up,” said Gainesville coach Joe Walrath. “Bretlyn Kastning, Macenzie Avila and Emory Warden all did a good job with the bats and the defense played well.”

Gainesville got another win against Bakersfield 10-3.

“They had beat us twice earlier in the year and this game we played good defense and hit the ball well,” Walrath said. “Emory Warden, Macenzie Avila, Leigha Rowland and Bretlyn Kastning were hitting the ball hard all game. Emory and Bretlyn really played some good defense along with Maddie Cooley in center field.” 

Walrath spoke about the Salem tournament, where the Lady Bulldogs lost to Mountain Grove 7-2 and Dixon 15-0, before picking up wins against Plato 6-3 and Bourbon 9-0. “The first two games we just couldn’t get anything going,” Walrath said. “Emma McGinnis came through with a two-run single and that was about the extent of our offense. In the last two games we played better. Katelyn Morgan pitched great those two games back to back and our offense got it going to help capture the wins.”

The Lady Bulldogs will be at Fordland April 26 and Mansfield on April 28.
