GHS Lady Bulldogs now 2-2 after last week’s losses

The Lady Bulldogs are now 2-2 after wins over Sparta and Mansfield and last week’s losses to Bakersfield and Houston. The Gainesville girls took on the Lady Lions from Bakersfield Tuesday, March 25, but ended up on the wrong side of a 2-5 score.

“We just never hit the ball well at all that entire game,” said GHS Coach Joe Walrarth. “Katelyn Morgan really pitched a good game against Bakersfield, but our offense just didn’t show up. I have to give it to the Lady Lions pitcher; she kept us off balance at the plate and did a good job of jamming us all game long.”

Next up for the Lady Bulldogs was a very tough Houston Lady Tigers team. “The Lady Tigers don’t end up playing for district championships or going to state every year because they are a bad team,” added Walrath. “They are well put together and make very few mistakes. They can hit just about any pitch you throw at them. We had three or four errors, and they capitalized on them every time. That is what good teams do to opponents. We did hit the ball better this game but it was what I call an at-em ball game. Every time they hit the ball it found a gap, and every time we hit the ball it was right at them.

“Lilly Winrod did have a couple of really good defensive plays but this was Houston’s day as they won 1-11. We are a young team and are going to go through some tough growing pains but I have faith in my girls every time they take the field. I have two great seniors in Katelyn Morgan and Emma McGinnis and with them we will fight hard and work  on getting better each game.”

Gainesville hosted Willow Springs (5-1) Tuesday, April 1. Results of that game were unavailable at presstime. They host Sparta at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 3.
