GHS Bulldogs go 3-1 at Conway Fall Classic, take second place

The Gainesville Bulldogs traveled to Conway to compete in the Conway Fall Classic tournament Thursday, Aug. 28 and Friday, Aug. 29. The Bulldogs won three out of four games and took second.
Thursday, the Bulldogs opened the tournament by taking on host Conway and defeating the Bears 2-1. That victory was followed by a 3-2 loss to the Hartville Eagles. The team returned to Conway for the final two games on Friday and defeated Plato 18-3 and Crocker 4-1 to bring home the second-place trophy.
“The boys played really well this weekend,
said GHS Coach Blake Hobbs. “We pitched extremely well.”
Senior Grant Leeker had 10 strikeouts in six innings of work against Conway. Cutter Morrison had eight strikeouts and only allowed one hit over the span of two games.
The Bulldogs had a good weekend at the plate also, Coach Hobbs said. Owen Donley had five hits; Brayden Miller had four hits; and Keegan Crouse had four hits, including two doubles. Avery Rodrigue had five hits, including the go-ahead RBI against Conway.
“We showed a lot of good this weekend, but we still have a lot to improve,” Hobbs said. “I’m excited to see this group go to work. They will be fun to watch as the year goes on.”
