The Gainesville boys and girls varsity track and field teams traveled to Hollister Thursday, May 21, for their first meet of the season. Coach Gary Emrick said the results were very good with a few performances that exceeded expectations coming into the season.
“Thirty-four student athletes are participating in high school track and field this season,” Emrick said. “That is a pretty big number for Gainesville, and we hope to continue drawing interest as we build a championship caliber program.”
Points are scored back to 8th place with many more athletes in each event. Medals were awarded to the top three in each event. Several student athletes placed in the top eight and a few received medals.
