Gainesville JH girls and boys are Norwood tournament champions

The Gainesville Junior High girls basketball team took first place in the 2024 Norwood tournament last week. The Gainesville Junior High boys and girls teams both earned the Norwood championship plaque after playing with some real grit in the Oct. 14-17 tournament. 

 

Bulldog boys

The boys team entered the tournament Oct. 14, taking a pretty easy 53-22 game win against Mansfield. Corbin West led the scoring efforts with 18 points, followed closely by Luke Hogan with 16. Keaton Hand made 8 points, Parker Gilmore 6 and Hoyt Crouse 5 points.

The win brought them into the semi-final round to face Norwood. The Bulldogs again took the contest with a good lead, ending the game 45-11. Parker Gilmore was the big scorer of that game with 17 points. Corbin West put up an admirable 13, Luke Hogan added 6, Hoyt Crouse 5 and Keaton Hand and Jake Hogan each chipped in 2 points. 

The Bulldogs faced Plato in the championship game. Corbin West went big on the scoreboard, bringing the Bulldogs 19 of their 57 points. Parker Gilmore added 15 points, Hoyt Crouse made 10 points, Keaton Hand 8, Luke Hogan and Carson Nielson each made 2 points, and Kyle Winrod added a single. The Bulldogs took the championship win 57-10.

 

JH Lady Bulldogs

The Gainesville Lady Bulldogs entered the tournament Oct. 14 in a match against Mansfield. The girls walked off the court with a 50-11 win. Sadie Walker led the scoring effort with 15 points, and Macy Hambelton put up another 12. Regan Blackburn added 8 points to the mix, Violet Winrod made 6, Allie Coolie added 3 and Lola Wade, Payton Eslinger and Taylor Frazier each chipped in 2. 

The win brought the girls into the semi-final round against Norwood, where they won 37-4. Sadie Walker was the top scorer with 13 points, followed by 10 from Macy Hambelton, 5 each from Regan Blackburn and Violet Winrod and 2 points each by Taylor Frazier and Lola Wade. 

Like the boys, the girls faced Plato in the championship game, and they took home the top place with a final score of 27-17. Macy Hambelton made 12 points that game, Sadie Walker had 6, Violet Winrod made 4, Lola Wade added 2, and Regan Blackburn rounded out the score with 2 points made.
