The Gainesville Bulldogs captured second place in the Seymour Wood Bat Tournament this past weekend, beating Mansfield and Crane before losing to tourney-host Seymour in the championship game.

For the Bulldogs, it was only the second loss of the fall season. Both losses have come in tournament championship games, the first loss coming in August to Dixon in the Conway Fall Classic.

Gainesville took second place in that tournament, and came away with the second place trophy again this past week against the Seymour Tigers, a team the Bulldogs beat 8-1 on Sept. 13.

The Bulldogs opened the tournament with a win over Mansfield 5-1.

Hunter Luna pitched a complete game, hurling 83 pitches and striking out seven while only allowing one hit. Briar Walrath, Grant Leeker and Aden Yarger all had two hits apiece.

Gainesville then walloped Crane in the second round 15-2 to advance to the championship game on Saturday. Seymour won 6-3.

In the game against Crane, Kannon Morrison was the winning pitcher, striking out 12. Aden Yarger, Grant Leeker and Wyatt Alms each had multi-hit games.

The Bulldogs lost a tough one to Fordland Monday evening 6-1 in regular action.

Gainesville hopes to get back in the W column on Sept. 30 when they host Conway before heading into the Summit Conference Tournament Oct. 3-7.
