The Gainesville Bulldogs opened their basketball season with a dominant 84–18 home victory over Cabool on Tuesday, Nov. 25, showcasing a balanced offense, aggressive defense and productive minutes from every class on the roster.

Senior Dawson Hewett powered the Bulldogs with a game-high 30 points while also swiping seven steals to set the tone defensively. Fellow seniors Grant Leeker and Owen Donley added 14 and 16 points respectively, with Donley also leading the team in playmaking with four assists.

Juniors contributed solidly as well, with Kolby Anderson scoring 10 points and Aden Gaulding adding four. Sophomores rounded out the scoring with Keegan Crouse tallying one point and Avery Rodrigue scoring seven. Freshman Corbin West made an impact in his varsity debut, chipping in five points.

Gainesville controlled the boards throughout the night. Rodrigue led the way with seven rebounds, while Gaulding and Hewett secured six each. Donley pulled down four, Leeker collected three, West added two and Haden Evans grabbed one.

GHS Head Coach Morris Jenkins said he was pleased with the Bulldogs’ opening-night performance.

“Overall I felt like our guys did a good job of trying to execute on both ends,” Jenkins said. “We shot the ball well and seemed to be focused on doing things that will give us a chance to improve as we start the season. We will find out a lot more this week as we have two road games against Chadwick and Bakersfield, both of which have good groups.”
