Bulldogs beat Conway in homecoming game match-up, fall to Cabool Jan. 11

Although the frigid weather caused the Gainesville High School boys homecoming basketball game to be moved to the weekend, there was nothing but fire coming from the Bulldogs on the court last Saturday afternoon, Jan. 13. 

The GHS varsity boys snatched the homecoming win from the Conway High School Bears 74-61, and Gainesville’s JV had a solid 70-40 victory.

Easton McGee and Andrew Hambelton led the varsity scoring with 14 each, followed by Nathan Kiger and Harmon Johns with 12 each, Owen Donley with 10, Jace Headrick 6 and Grant Leeker with 4.

During the game prior, Gainesville boys varsity team suffered a two-point loss in a tight Jan. 11 Bulldog-on-Bulldog contest when Gainesville took on Cabool in the away gym. GHS ended the game with 56 points, and Cabool brought in 58.  

Leading the Bulldogs offensive effort was Easton McGee, who scored 26 points. Harmon Johns added another 9 points and brought in a solid 5 rebounds while Owen Donley brought in 8  points and Nathan Kiger added 6. Jace Headrick chipped in 5 points, and Andrew Hambelton added a couple to the scoreboard to round out the night. 

The Bulldogs JV team was able to snag the win from Cabool, ending their game 70- 40.

Gainesville was scheduled to host Willow Springs Tuesday, Jan. 16, but school was canceled, and the game postponed. The Bulldogs  will host Sparta (13-2) Thursday, Jan. 18 and will travel to Mountain Grove to take on the Panthers Friday, Jan. 19.

The Gainesville boys are also scheduled to play in the Sparta Trojans Tournament Jan. 22-29, with their first round game against Mansfield at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23.
