BASKETBALL: GJHS basketball teams travel to Mansfield, Alton

The Gainesville Junior High basketball teams were on the road last week, taking on Mansfield and Alton. The girls A team added one win and their first loss of the season, bringing their record to 5-1. The girls B team now stands at 4-1. The boys A team is holding a 4-2 record for the season so far, and the B team is now 3-3.

The Gainesville junior high basketball teams traveled to Mansfield Thursday, Sept. 26. The boys A team and the girls A and B teams brought home wins.

In girls’ action, the A team demolished the Mansfield junior Lions 36-7. Sadie Walker led the scoring with 13 points, followed by Lola Wade with 6 and Regan Blackburn with 5. Macy Hambelton and Payton Eslinger added 4 each. Violet Winrod and Taylor Frazier added 2 each. The B team brought home a 16-4 victory led by Izzy Workman and Allie Cooley with 6 points each. Makelby Myers and Allie Possehl added 2 each.

The boys A team also had a big win over the Lions with a final score of 68-24. Carson Nielson led the scoring with 22 points, followed by Keaton Hand with 14 and Corbin West with 10. Luke Hogan added 8; Hoyt Crouse 7; Parker Gilmore 4; and Jake Hogan chipped in 3.

The next night, Sept. 27, the Bulldogs traveled to Alton to take on the Comets, but the Bulldogs’ shots weren’t falling, and the Comets won the night in all three games.  The girls A team fell to the Lady Comets, 38-25. Macy Hambelton led the Bulldogs scoring efforts with 11 points, followed by Violet Winrod with 6. Other players scoring for Gainesville were Regan Blackburn 6, Lola Wade 2 and Sadie Walker 1. Alton doesn’t have enough players for a girls B team, so that was the only game for the girls that evening.

The boys B team played a close game but lost 21-19. Luke Hogan led the scoring for the Bulldogs with 10 points. Other players scoring for the Dogs were Carson Nielson 4, Kyle Winrod and Landon Treat with 2 each and Parker Gilmore with 1.

In boys A team action, the Bulldogs fell 60-34, Keaton Hand led the scoring with 8 points followed by Corbin West with 7 and Carson Nielson with 6. Parker Gilmore added 5 and Hoyt Crouse scored 4. Luke Hogan and Brantley Nash added 2 each. The GJHS Bulldogs traveled to Hartville Tuesday, Oct. 1 (game results unavailable at presstime) and are headed to Bakersfield Thursday, Oct. 3 and will be hosting Chadwick on Friday, October. 4.
