BASEBALL: Tough week for Bulldogs
The Gainesville Bulldogs baseball team had a rough start last week on the road, dropping games to Sparta and Hartville.
“Both games came down to not executing when we need to,” GHS Head Coach Blake Hobbs said. “We struggled throwing strikes against Sparta, walking 10 guys. We gave up 11 runs on four hits. And on offense, we couldn’t get the timely hit with runners in scoring position. Hartville, we pitched it much better but just couldn’t drive any runs in. Both games we did things well, but when we needed that big hit or big strikeout or just an out in general, we just couldn’t get it done. That’s baseball.”
The Bulldogs redeemed themselves with a big 11-1 win over Lighthouse Christian in five innings on Friday. “Basically everything we struggled with the two games prior, we fixed in this game,” Hobbs said.
“We’re hitting the ball harder that any team I’ve had,” Hobbs added. “We have a great defense. The fact that it all comes down to execution just gives a coach that reminder this is a game of failure and that was just what we experienced last week. This team will experience a lot of success, and I can’t wait to see what all they can do.”
