BASEBALL: Bulldogs beat Licking and Fordland, now 9-1

Gainesville senior Hunter Luna pitched 5.2 innings and struck out nine Fordland batters in Monday night’s 4-2 win.
The Gainesville Bulldogs chalked up two more wins for the fall baseball season and brought their season record to an impressive 9-1.
GHS hosted the Licking Wildcats (10-5) on Thursday, Sept. 26 and won 4-3 on a walk-off sacrifice fly from Brayden Miller. Dawson Hewett went 2-3 from the plate and scored two runs. Owen Donley was 1-1 and had the game-tying RBI in the sixth inning.
“Licking was a great win,” GHS Coach Blake Hobbs said. “Grant Leeker competed well on the mound, going five innings and only allowing one hit. All in all, it was a well-played game after taking a week off. We could’ve been better, but for the circumstances, I thought the boys did good. That’s a big win against a really good team.”
The Bulldogs hit the road Monday, Sept. 30, and traveled to Fordland (9-3) where they won 4-2.
Brayden Miller went 2-4 from the plate with an RBI. Dawson Hewett was 2-3 with an RBI. “Hunter Luna was very good on the mound,” Hobbs said.
Luna went 5.2 innings, striking out nine.
“Our team is good. We’re playing well,” Hobbs said. “But, I think we have a chance to be so much better. We’re 9-1, and we haven’t even reached our potential as a team yet.”
Tuesday, Oct. 1, the Gainesville team travels to Alton and then will host Conway on Friday, Oct. 4.
The Summit Conference Tournament will be held Oct. 7-11.
