The Dora Lady Falcons tipped off their season in impressive fashion Friday night, Nov. 21, cruising past Van Buren for a 48–29 home victory in the debut of new head coach Scott Womack.
Junior guard Kinley Luna powered Dora’s offense, pouring in 20 points, including three 3-pointers, while adding five rebounds and four assists. Fellow sharpshooter Isabelle Martin delivered 12 points—all from beyond the arc—and sparked the defense with six steals.
The Lady Falcons controlled the paint as well. Ellie Ullom finished with 10 points and six rebounds, while Montgomery Mitchell anchored the boards with eight rebounds to go with her four points. Kynslee Vandiver chipped in two points and four rebounds to round out the scoring.
After more than three decades coaching at West Plains, Womack took the reins at Dora this season. He said the opener showed both growth and potential.
“For our first game I was really pleased with our effort,” Womack said. “The girls came out a little nervous missing some shots and turning the ball over early in the first quarter, but once we settled down I thought we played pretty well as a team.”
Dora’s defensive pressure proved to be the turning point.
“Our team defense was really good throughout the night,” Womack said. “We forced Van Buren into 29 turnovers, and that made a difference in the second half.”
The Lady Falcons outscored Van Buren 26–12 after halftime, executing their offense with far more rhythm and confidence.
“We finally started running our offense the way we were wanting to,” Womack said. “I’m excited with the progress we’ve made early in the season, and if we continue to get better, I think we have a chance to do some really good things this year.”
Dora moves to 1–0 on the season and will look to build on the strong start as they continue their early schedule.
