Lady Falcons get three wins, two losses last week

The Dora Lady Falcons softball team racked up three wins and two losses recently, bringing their season record to 5-4 after a busy week.

Dora started off its game-packed week with a home-field 14-3 win over Bakersfield Monday, Sept. 7. The Dora girls were led by Cassidy Hambelton, who collected 3 hits against the Lady Lions. Dora’s Autumn Nold had 2 hits, 5 RBIs and a home run. Cally Depriest, Shauna Lake and Mckenna Miller also collected 2 hits each during the game. “Kenley Howard pitched well for us, with 5 strikeouts and only allowing 4 hits,” said Dora coach Dylan Fox.

The Dora girls traveled to Seymour Wednesday, Sept. 8, and won 19-6. “We hit the ball really, really well,” Fox said. “As a team, we had 19 hits and scored 19 runs. Leading the way was Lauren Martin with 4 hits. Autumn Nold, Cassidy Hambelton and McKenna Miller each had 3 hits, and Shauna Lake, Chesney Luna and Cally Depriest each had 2 hits. Kenley Howard pitched well for us again, only allowing 6 hits.”

Dora suffered their first home-field loss Thursday, Sept. 9, falling to the Hartville Lady Eagles 10-5. “We just didn’t play as well as we should have,” Fox said. “Hartville played well, but we didn’t decide to wake up until late in the game. Mckenna Miller, Lauren Martin and Cassidy Hambelton each had 2 hits, but it was too late in the game at that point.”

The Lady Falcons had a one-day break before heading to Reeds Spring Saturday, Sept. 11, where they played two games. Dora beat Reeds Spring 20-3. “We had to be pretty patient at the plate,” Fox said. “They struggled throwing strikes early, and the girls did a good job of being patient. Cassidy Hambelton, Chesney Luna, Autumn Nold and Kenley Howard each had 1 hit on the game. Defensively, we played well, and Kenley Howard did a good job throwing strikes and letting our defense work.”

Dora struggled against Cassville that afternoon. “It took us a while to adjust at the plate,” Fox said. “We had recently seen two really slow pitchers, and Cassville had a girl throwing pretty hard. We finally adjusted late in the game, and Autumn Nold collected 2 hits, along with Shauna Lake and McKenna Miller each getting 1 hit. We didn’t play as well as we should have, and it got us beaten. But Cassville is a good team. So hopefully we learned something from it.”

Dora traveled to Doniphan Monday, Sept. 13, and hosted Alton Tuesday, Sept. 14. Thursday, the Lady Falcons will host East Carter before traveling to the Pride Park Tournament in Bakersfield  Saturday, Sept. 18.
