Caulfield woman arrested for possession of methamphetamine in Douglas County

Lorraine Tackitt, 56, of Caulfield, has been charged with possession of controlled substance, delivery or possession of a controlled substance at a county jail, driving while intoxicated and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia (with a prior drug offense) in Douglas County court. 

According to the probable cause statement, at 7:20 p.m. April 28, Douglas County Deputy Box and Deputy Evans responded to a report of a careless and imprudent driver in a black truck in the eastbound land of Highway 14 east near Douglas County Road 246. The deputies located the truck and turned around to initiate a traffic stop, but the truck had already stopped on the county road. 

Tackitt was in the driver’s seat and told the officers that she had turned off on the county road to check her cell phone. She said she was traveling from her son’s house in Mansfield, but then recanted that statement and said she’d actually been coming from Marshfield. She said she was on her way home to Caulfield. 

The deputies noted that Tackitt was displaying signs of methamphetamine use during their conversation, including rapid speech and lack of control of her bodily movements. 

The deputies asked Tackitt if she’d consumed any alcohol or prescription medications, and she said she hadn’t. They then asked if she possessed any illegal items in her vehicle, and she said she did not. They asked permission to search the vehicle, and she agreed. Inside a sling bag in the car, the officers found three glass smoking devices and another in the glovebox, which possessed a white crystalline substance consistent with meth.  Tackitt reportedly told the officers she had smoked meth within the last 72 hours. 

She was arrested and transported to the Douglas County Jail, where a female jailer found a bag that included 1.42 grams of suspected meth in her bra.
