Friends and family celebrate H.K. Silvey’s 90th birthday
H.K. Silvey celebrated his 90th birthday Saturday at The Center with “a party that you wouldn’t believe,” he said. An estimated 100 or so friends and relatives dropped by the event. “I saw people I hadn’t seen in 20 years and people I’ll never see again and some relatives I’d never seen,” he said happily, adding that his daughters and granddaughter-in-law “fixed up that building, prettied it all up, and there was all kinds of cookies and cakes and snacks.” There was also a birthday cake, but the “Happy Birthday” song wasn’t sung. He guessed “they just didn’t have a song leader,” or perhaps, he agreed, “no one was there to play the fiddle.” (H.K., a renowned fiddle player himself, is now unable to play due to medical issues.) H.K. expressed thanks to all who came. He is shown here with his children, from left, Doug Silvey, Sheryl Lawson and Elaine Burnett.
