Volleyball - The Lady Lions volleyball team took home the championship trophy at the Couch invitational tournament Aug. 16, beating out Bradleyville (2-0), Couch (2-0) and Gainesville (2-0). They had a loss to Cabool Aug. 29 (1-3), but both varsity and JV teams took home another win against Koshkonong Aug. 31. Volleyball action was set to continue this week with the Lady Lions facing up against Thayer Tuesday, Dora on Friday, Summersville on Monday, Sept. 11, and Mansfield on Tuesday, Sept. 12.
Baseball - The Lions varsity baseball team won against the Gainesville Bulldogs Aug. 31 with a score of 4-2 (JV lost to Gainesville 1-3). Ethan Cotter was the winning pitcher for Bakersfield with 8 strikeouts. A.J. Hensley had 2 hits and 2 RBIs for the Lions, while Bodie Harden also had 2 hits. Ethan Cotter, Tyler Cotter and Eli Cotter each had 1 hit for Bakersfield. In the JV game, David Manley led Bakersfield with 3 hits.
The Lions were set to play Seymour Tuesday, and will face Lighthouse Senior High Christian Academy and Mansfield on Saturday, followed by a match against Winona Monday, Sept. 11.
Cross country - The Bakersfield cross country runners participated in a meet in Winona Aug. 30. They’re scheduled to compete again Thursday in Willow Springs and in Alton Wednesday, Sept. 13.
