The Bakersfield Lions baseball teams showed grit, determination and had flashes of big hitting under the direction of coach Brandon Cotter.
The week began at home on Sept. 2 with a 6-2 varsity victory over Summersville. Ty Cotter led the offense with two hits and two RBIs, while Alex Helm, Eli Cotter and Russ Lovins each added a hit. The junior varsity battled hard but fell just short in a 2-1 decision.
On Sept. 4, the Lions traveled to Gainesville for a competitive 3-1 varsity loss. Eli Cotter, Jake Summers, Austin Durham and Case Lashley all collected hits as the team fought a strong Bulldogs squad. The junior varsity earned a hard-fought 1-1 tie on the road.
Looking ahead, Bakersfield will aim to build on their early-season successes and continue refining their play as they prepare for this week’s play, which includes the Sept. 13 Bakersfest Classic tournament. The Lions are set to play Alton in that event.
