The Bakersfield Lions baseball team ended their season last week after taking second place in the Big Springs conference tournament.
The Lions played their first game against Couch and easily won the contest 19-0 with Alex Helms at the mound as the winning pitcher. Helm also aided the team with 3 hits, and teammates Bodie Hardin, Ty Cotter, Eli Cotter, Cooper Massey, David Manley and Ruhstyn Lovins added one hit each.
The win advanced the team to the semi-finals game Oct. 8 against Alton, and the Lions again came out on top with 13-4 on the scoreboard. Ty Cotter was the winning pitcher in the semi-final game. Bodie Hardin had three hits, and Ty Cotter, Cooper Massey, Jake Summers, Austin Durham, and Case Lashley each had 2 hits a piece.
The Lions entered the championship game Oct. 11 against a tough Van Buren team. Head Coach Brandon Cotter said the game was a full-on pitching battle, and the Bakersfield boys fell short 1-0.
“Bodie Hardin pitched a great game against a very good Van Buren team. We out hit Van Buren 4 hits to 2,” Cotter said. “Bodie Hardin, Ty Cotter, Eli Cotter and Austin Durham had one hit each. We ended our fall season with 10 wins and 3 losses.”
