The Bakersfield Lions took first place in the Big Springs Conference Tournament last week. The Lions defeated Dora 80-44 on Tuesday, Jan. 28, returned on Thursday and beat a tough Winona team 47-43. On Saturday, the Lions faced the Eminence Redwings and won 61-50 to earn the championship trophy. Members of the team are, from left, Coach James Denton, Connor Jones, Eli Cotter, Ty Cotter, Cooper Massey, Morris Collins, Bodie Hardin, Kyden Alvarado, CJ Carey, Coach McGinnis. Connor Jones and Morris Collins were named to the BSC All-Tournament Team. Connor Jones averaged 18.2 points per game, and Morrison Collins averaged 14.2 points per game on the week. “I am proud of our guys this past week,” said Coach Denton. “This was a great bounce-back week after losing in the Houston Championship a week prior. We had a lot of guys step up and excel in their roles throughout the week, and that was a big reason behind our success. We still have a tough schedule to finish out our season and hopefully we can keep moving in the right direction going forward.” The Lions next three games are at home. They hosted Dora on Tuesday, Feb. 4. Results of that game were unavailable at presstime. They will host Couch on Friday, Feb. 7 for Homecoming, and then Summersville, Monday, Feb. 10.
