Bakersfield Lady Lions go 1-2 at Big Spring Conference tourney

The Bakersfield Lady Lions went 1-2 at the Big Spring Conference Volleyball Tournament last week, earning a four-set victory over Couch before falling to Winona and Summersville.

Bakersfield opened tournament play Thursday with a 3-1 victory over Couch, winning 25-21, 25-13, 16-25 and 25-18.

Junior Eden Cotter led the Lady Lions with 18 kills and added two aces. Lexi Clarkson contributed eight kills and an ace, while Marlee Maynard and Riley Summers each had four kills. Summers also recorded an ace.

Shaniah Foster led Bakersfield with three aces, while Shiloh Bean and Abby Guffey each had one. The Lady Lions finished the match with nine aces.

Bakersfield faced Winona on Friday and fell 3-0, 25-12, 25-6 and 25-8. Cotter led the Lady Lions with five kills. Maynard had one kill and an ace, while Clarkson and Guffey each recorded an ace.

The tournament concluded Saturday with a 3-0 loss to Summersville. Cotter again led Bakersfield offensively with 10 kills. Clarkson added seven kills and a block, while Maynard had five kills and an ace.

Foster recorded two kills and two aces, Guffey had two kills and an ace, and Riley Summers and Shiloh Bean each added a kill.

Cotter led the Lady Lions for the tournament with 33 kills, followed by Clarkson with 15 and Maynard with 10. Foster led Bakersfield from the service line with five aces, while Cotter, Clarkson and Maynard each recorded two.

The Lady Lions hosted Summersville on Tuesday, Sept. 29, but results of that game were unavailable at presstime.

Bakersfield travels to Dora on Thursday, Oct. 1 to take on the Lady Falcons. Games start at 5:30 p.m.

Bakersfield will participate in the Houston Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 3
