Orfs will celebrate 60th wedding anniversary on Christmas Eve
Gary and Sue Orf of Bakersfield will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, 2024.
Their story began as childhood sweethearts at Bakersfield School when Gary played basketball and baseball and Sue (then Sue Schrable) was a cheerleader.
Both graduated from Bakersfield High School with the class of 1962.
After graduation, Gary played basketball and earned an associate’s degree from Arkansas State University.
He and Sue were married on Christmas Eve 1964.
They have lived in the Bakersfield area all their lives. Gary has farmed, logged, operated a bulldozer business as well as ran a sawmill with his dad in the 1970s. Sue farmed, gardened and was well-known for the pies she made for local restaurants throughout the years. She has served the community as a secretary for Bakersfield Full Gospel Church for 35 to 40 years, as well as being an election worker for many years. She is still a representative on the Ozark County Health Board.
The Orfs continue to raise beef cattle on their farms in Ozark and Howell counties in Missouri and Fulton County in Arkansas.
Gary and Sue enjoy their time spent with their friends and family at the local cafe, and they were recently recognized for their many years of attending BHS sporting events. They also treasure their planned lunches and visits with their BHS classmates who still live locally.
All three of their children graduated from Bakersfield High School and attended Missouri State University-West Plains, graduating from MSU-Springfield. They are Gaylon Orf and wife Julie of Kennett, Missouri, Christy Perisho and husband Paul of Pleasant Hill, Missouri and Lana Krohne and husband Brock of Belton Missouri; their grandchildren are Ashley (Perisho) Jamison, Greg Orf, Jake and Gretchen (Orf) Bost, Luke Orf, Emily Perisho, Olivia Orf and Ryan Perisho.
