Vendors wanted for new open air market to be held at Theodosia shopping center

Business owners in Theodosia organizing a new open air market include, from left, back row: Russ Mathews of Country Apron Bakery, Madison Plakorus and Nichole Sherry of Ozark Local, Carla Holcomb of Grandma’s Pantry, Kristy Suter of TLC Marketplace. Front row: Shanna Clayton of CF Meat Co. and Pam Mathews of Country Apron Bakery.

The owners of five businesses located within the shopping center on Highway 160 in Theodosia are excited to host a new “open air market” every third Saturday of the month at the center.

The group is now looking for vendors who may want to setup to offer various items for sale, services, games, face painting or other offerings at the monthly event, which is aimed at attracting more people to Theodosia and the surrounding area and to bring more customers to the businesses located there.

Organizers say that during the market days, some booths will be setup outside under a covered awning, while others may be able to set up inside some of the five stores where space allows.

There is no vendor fee for booths that need no electricity. The shop will offer a limited number of spaces for booths or vendors who need electricity, which will be offered at a moderate fee.

To apply to be considered for the May 20 open air market, contact any of the business owners listed below.

Country Apron Bakery and Cafe

Country Apron Bakery and Cafe is located at the west end of the shopping center. Owners Russ and Pam Mathews took over the bakery and cafe from Mike and Gretchen Hatcher after a medical condition caused the Hatchers to step away from the business. The bakery offers up fresh, homemade baked goods including their infamous sticky buns and cinnamon rolls. Other popular options include cookies, cupcakes, artisan breads and cakes. In addition to sweets, Country Apron Bakery offers a full made-to-order breakfast menu every morning and serves a different lunch special each day. Specials are posted to the cafe’s Facebook page. Custom  orders are accepted with 24 to 48 hour advance notice. Hours are 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. TLC Marketplace

TLC Marketplace owner Kristy Suter and husband Cole own the shopping center where the five businesses are located and have recently moved TLC Marketplace into the larger space toward the middle of the building which Treasure Gallery occupied for many years until its closure last fall. The store offers overstock items from Target, Amazon and other stores at deeply discounted prices. Stock, which includes everything from clothing to home decor and kitchen appliances to toys,  is always changing, and customers are encouraged to stop in and check out the inventory on a regular basis. The store is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. To find out more, call 417-989-9414, email kristysuter01@gmail.com or search for “TLC Marketplace” on Facbeook.

CF Meat Co.

Owners Shanna (pictured here) and Erica Clayton offer up a variety of local meat and Missouri-grown foods at CF Meat Co. located toward the west end of the shopping center on Highway 160 in Theodosia. The pair own Clayton Farms, which keeps the shop supplied with beef and lamb. Other local and Missouri-owned farms and providers supply CF Meat Co. with pork, chicken, rice, eggs, honey, barbecue sauces and other food items. The shop rotates different meat bundles each month, which are advertised on large chalkboards inside the store. A smaller chalkboard out front advertises various sidewalk sales too. Shanna continues a family tradition of farming which she inherited from her parents, Joe Harlin and Donna Clayton, who operated a dairy farm in Theodosia beginning in the 1970s. Both parents have since passed away, and Shanna took over the farm operating a beef farm. Her cousin Robin Mahan operates a dairy nearby. Shanna says hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday “if everything goes right, which it rarely does,” she said, laughing. She reminds customers that in addition to being shop owners, they are also working-farm owners, and calving season is here. Therefore, it’s wise to call the shop before making a trip in from very far. To find out more, call the shop at 417-712-1037, email cfmeatco@yahoo.com or search for “CF Meat Co. on Facebook.”
