Options Pregnancy opens here

The Options Pregnancy Center opened last week on First Street in Gainesville, with executive director Mary Seewald, left, and case manager Rachelle Brown welcoming pregnant women and teens, new mothers and couples seeking support during pregnancy and as new parents. The nonprofit agency, supported totally by area churches, businesses and individuals, has operated for 13 years in Ava. The Gainesville center is the organization’s first satellite facility. Seewald said the office offers pregnancy testing, free ultrasounds, prenatal vitamins, prenatal and parenting classes, childbirth education, adoption referral and post-abortive support. It also provides newborn supplies and gently used clothing items to those who participate in the facility’s programs. Volunteers are needed to help mentor facility clients and to help organize and operate the “mama-baby room” where supplies are distributed. For now, the Gainesville office is open only from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays, but the phone number 417-986-2585 is answered 24/7 for support and information. The local number is 679-0119. Seewald said that, with volunteer support, it’s hoped the Gainesville center’s hours can be extended.
