Preschool construction on hold

Construction of Gainesville School’s new preschool building has been put on hold pending the filing of paperwork required by the Federal Aviation Administration because of the school’s proximity to the Gainesville Memorial Airport on the other side of Bulldog Drive. Also, after a spokesman for the Missouri Pilots Association questioned the location of the planned preschool building near the end of the airport’s runway, talks began between school officials and the City of Gainesville, which owns the airport. That discussion was expected to continue Tuesday evening at the city’s scheduled Board of Aldermen meeting, which school officials planned to attend. Asked Monday how much the Gainesville airport is used, airport manager Ron Weldon answered, “not very often.” It’s thought that the city and the school may be discussing the possibility of moving the airport to another site.
