Man charged with felony for driving without license after 10+ DUI convictions

Steven L. Long, 66, of Isabella, is being held in the Ozark County Jail on a $1,500 cash only bond, in connection with a grand jury indictment where he’s charged with a felony for driving without a license as a persistent offender and driving with a revoked or suspended license. He was arraigned Nov. 22. He is ordered to reappear for a plea hearing or trial setting on Dec. 6.

According to the probable cause statement filed by Ozark County Sheriff’s Lt. Matt Rhoades, on Nov. 27, 2022, at approximately 1:18 p.m. the officer was conducting a uniformed patrol on Highway 160 in Isabella, when he saw a red Ford F-150 that he recognized as Long’s from prior encounters with the subject. Rhoades conducted a traffic stop, and Long got out of the vehicle as the officer was coming to a stop in his patrol vehicle.

“I confirmed that his license was still suspended. A records check revealed that Steve has had at least 3 convictions for driving while on a suspended license. He has also had at least 10 DUI [driving under the influence of drugs/alcohol] convictions and dozens of arrests for the same two charges, making him eligible for the class E felony charge for driving with a suspended license.

In Missouri, motorists who are convicted of three or more times of an intoxication-related traffic offense receives a 10-year driver’s license denial.

He was arrested and booked into the Ozark County Jail.
