Lions beat MHCA, 104-73

The Bakersfield Lions scored more than 100 points for the third time this season, as the 11-4 Lions beat Mountain Home (Ark.) Christian Academy 104-73 in action this past week.

Ethan Cotter netted 42 points for the Lions in the win.

Also scoring in double digits were Mason Bean with 14, Morris Collins with 13 and Bodie Hardin with 11.

Coach James Denton said his team is the number one seed this week as they compete in the Houston Tournament.

The Lady Lions also picked up a win over MHCA, 54-32. Callie Smith led the Bakersfield team with 12 points, followed by Shaleigh Bridges with 9, Gretchen Zastrow with 8 and Keely Stevens and Alexis McGhee with 7 points each.

The Bakersfield girls also grabbed their second win over Gainesville in as many days, although this one on the road was a ‘nail-biter, unlike the game two days prior at Bakersfield where the Lady Lions won 41-23. Bakersfield edged the Lady Bulldogs by two, 40-38.

“Just as we had expected the game was a tough battle and much closer than the first contest,” said Bakersfield coach Doug Lansdown. “Both teams played hard.”

Callie Smith led the Lady Lions with 14 points, followed by Jessie Keith with 11 and Keely Stevens with 10, Callie also grabbed 9 boards and had 7 steals in the game.

The Lady Lions were competing this week in the Cabool Tournament.
