Bakersfield Lady Lions bring record to 13-8 after two more wins

The Bakersfield Lady Lions defeated the Van Buren Lady Bulldogs 61-51 at Summersville Monday, Feb. 5. “I’m really proud of my girls,” said Coach Micheal Mahan. “They pulled off a nice win against a very tough, young Van Buren team.

Jessi Keith led the scoring with 21 points, followed by Keely Stevens with 20. Callie Smith added 11, and Reinna Velasquez scored 9.

The Bakersfield Lady Lions traveled to Couch Friday, Feb. 9, and trounced the Couch Lady Indians 60-25.

“The girls played their best game of the year against Couch Friday night,” said Mahan. “We played tough defense and made defensive stops when needed. The girls had good chemistry and great ball movement on offense and transitioned well when the opportunity came about. I’m proud of these girls and how hard they work each and every day.” Callie Smith and Jessie Keith led the scoring with 15 points each. Rienna Velasquez added 13 points, followed be Keely Stevens and Madison Melvin with 5 points each. Lily Williams chipped in 3, and Abigail Guffey and Sadie Davidson scored 2 each.

The Lady Lions then hosted the Dora Lady Falcons at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13. Senior Lady Lions Jessie Keith and Rienna Velasquez were honored that evening. Results and photos of that game and senior recognition were unavailable at presstime. We hope to include them next week.

The Bakersfield girls will play Koshkonong Thursday this week, the last scheduled game before the class 2 district 10 tournament, scheduled for Feb. 19-23.

The Lady Lions will face Mansfield (8-17) in the opening district game Feb. 19.
