Albert Thompson Post No. 275, G. A. R. [Grand Army of the Republic] met last Saturday and elected the following officers for the year: W. A. Love Com-mander; R. S. Small S. V.; B. F. Sweckard J. V.; Wm. Comer Quartermaster; J. A. Bingaman Adjutant; J. E. Wood Officer of the Day; A. H. Hannaford Officer Guard and John Wood Chaplain.
There will be public installation of officers at the courthouse Friday at 1 p.m. The public is cordially invited to attend.

Chan Hamilton [Hambel-ton], proprietor of the Hogard Hotel, is seriously ill.
Claude Crumley, who has been in Kansas City the past two months attending an automobile school, arrived home Saturday. Claude and his father intend to put in another garage here in the near future.
Henry Culpepper of the U.S. ship Jason, on furlough, arrived in town Monday evening to see his little son and daughter. He went to Howards Ridge Tuesday morning where he is visiting with his parents until time to start back to his ship on Friday morning.
Caney – The people of this vicinity met and organized a Red Cross chapter with 35 members. They also put on the thrift stamp campaign. ... We expect that dozen or half dozen eggs for the Easter Red Cross offering. You can spare that many. L. G. Amyx is treasurer.
 
March 24, 1938
A roadster automobile crashed into a tree at the foot of the long and steep hill coming from the west at Zanoni on Friday evening. One of the two occupants of the car, both from Mtn. Grove, sustained a severe scalp wound and an injury to a leg. ... The car was badly damaged. 
 
March 25, 1943
John Maxwell (Max) Harlin, 33 years old, owner of the O. K. Rubber Welding Co. in West Plains, was instantly killed last Friday night about 9 o’clock when a pickup truck he was driving ran into the rear end of a large transport truck owned by the Richards Brothers Store Co. of West Plains which had stalled on a small hill just north of Olden...
Harlin was born in Gainesville on July 6, 1909, the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Harlin and grew to manhood here, residing here until two years ago. 
 
March 21, 1963
Monday morning the flag, raised for the first time at the new Gainesville High School, waved briskly in the wind of a bright March day as students and faculty entered the building for the first day of school at the new plant.
Furniture, books and other equipment from what is now the Gainesville Elementary School were moved to the high school, some two miles east of Gainesville, on Friday and Saturday. 
 
March 21, 1968
Donald Oscar Lands-down, 27, of Springfield, and Melvin Dean Sears, 34, Mansfield, who escaped from the Wright county jail at Hartville Monday night or early Tuesday, were apprehended at Isabella Tuesday night.
Sheriff Herman Pierce, special deputies Pete Lord and Earl Holmes, Trooper Carl Watson, Mtn. Grove, and Deputy Bob Clark, Mansfield, captured the pair when they stopped their car and prepared to enter the Shirley Jones residence at Isabella.
Earlier, the escapees, driving a 1956 Chevrolet stolen in Hartville, had stopped at Holmes Station, where they cashed a check. After they left, Earl Holmes, feeling that there was something suspicious in their actions, called Sheriff Pierce. ... The officers, expecting the men to go to the Jones residence, were waiting for them when they drove up.

The Ozark County Genealogical and Historical Society will hold its spring meeting at the Ozark County Library Sunday at 2 p.m. A copy of the recently completed index to the family history section of the book, A History of Ozark County, will be on display. 
The index was compiled by Donna Britton Johnston, an accountant at Louisiana State University... Her connections with Ozark County include branches of the Matney, Satterfield, Simp-son, Smith and Strong families.
