New furniture at Gainesville Elementary School

Children in kindergarten through third grade at Gainesville Elementary School will find brand-new desks and colorful, ergonomic chairs in their classrooms when they start school Wednesday, Aug. 15. Above, superintendent Jeff Hyatt checks out teacher Kris Ledbetter’s kindergarten classroom after installers had finished assembling the new tables and chairs. The new furniture, a board-approved district-funded improvement, cost $38,000 and is part of a two-year plan to install new student desks and chairs throughout the elementary school. The public is invited to see the new furniture at the school’s open house from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 6. The school will be serving hamburgers and hotdogs  and will hold informational meetings on Proposition Gaineville Bulldogs, the proposed levy increase that will appear on the Aug. 7 ballot. (See story, page 1A.) Meetings are scheduled for 6 p.m. at the high school and 7:30 p.m. at the elementary.
