The Bakersfield Lady Lions hosted a softball tournament Saturday at Pride Park, and got their first home win when they defeated Mansfield 7-3. The young team held their own against a good Dora team, but lost 6-3, before battling an undefeated at the time Doniphan team. “We were playing them a 6-4 game going into the fourth inning,” said Coach Micheal Mahan.

After losing to Doniphan, the team ran out of gas against a good Ava team and fell 11-1 in their fourth game of the day. “I’m proud of my young Lady Lions team and how hard they worked,” Mahan said. “We’re getting better every game. I’m also proud of our faculty, staff, administrators, students and community members who helped out and made this year’s BHS softball tournament so successful.”

East Carter won the tournament. Doniphan took second place and Norwood took third.
