Wilma R. McGinnis, 97

Funeral services for Wilma R. McGinnis, 97, of Jonesboro, Arkansas, were scheduled for  10 a.m. today, July 17, 2019, at Emerson Memorial Chapel in Jonesboro with Curtis Shatley officiating. Burial in Mammoth Cemetery will follow at 3 p.m. today. Mrs. McGinnis died July 13 at the Craighead County Nursing Center in Jonesboro. 

She was born March 23, 1922, in Grand Island, Nebraska, the daughter of Will and Louise Lydia Lenz Keeney. She met Ozark County native Herbert McGinnis when she was going to public school in Washington State and he was working in the timber industry there. They were married April 22, 1939, in Washington.

After the birth of their son, Dwight, in 1944, they moved back to Ozark County, where Mr. McGinnis had grown up. After her husband’s death in 1986, she moved to Jonesboro, where she became a very active member of Walnut Street Baptist Church. She was a volunteer with the Helping Neighbors Food Pantry and also volunteered for many other projects in the Jonesboro area.

She is survived by her sons, Dwight McGinnis and wife Elizabeth of Lakeland, Tennessee, and Dewey McGinnis and wife Dawn of Bothell, Washington; three grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
