Wanda Fox, 95

Funeral services for Wanda Fox, 95, of Gainesville, were held Feb. 12, 2018, at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Gainesville with Denny Stormes officiating. Mrs. Fox died Feb. 8 at the Gainesville Health Care Center in Gainesville.

She was born April 4, 1922, in Delaplaine, Arkansas, the daughter of Charles “Chink” Stevens and Victoria Miranda Clark. She graduated from Delaplaine High School, and on June 8, 1942, she married Alfred E. Fox. They lived in New York while he was in service and then moved to St. Louis and in later years to Brixey, where Mrs. Fox was a homemaker and gardener.

She was a prolific quilter, and all her quilts were handmade. She loved to read and loved her cats. She came from a large family of 11 children and only had one child herself but treated many other kids as though they were her own. She opened her home to almost 20 of her relatives who needed a place to stay. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by one daughter, Vicki Hawkins and son-in law Gordon Hawkins; one grandson, Roy Aldrich; one great-grandson, Roy Aldrich Jr.; four sisters; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers and five sisters.

Burial was in the Smith Chapel Cemetery.

Arrangements by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville.
