Theta Porter, 91

Graveside services for Theta June Porter, 91, of Squires,  were held Oct. 4, 2019, in the Murray Cemetery at Squires with the Rev. Oren Alcorn and Pastor Maxine Lund officiating. Mrs. Ported died Oct. 1 at her home in Squires with her loving son Bill and family by her side.

She was born Feb. 23, 1928, in Kansas City, the daughter of Lawrence and Gladys Long. She was a 1947 Ava High School graduate. After receiving additional education, she was proud to teach GED classes with Amanda Porter. Mrs. Porter was owner and operator of Porter’s Cafe in Squires for many years. She was a pillar in that community.

She was a Christian and a member of Ava General Baptist Church for many years. In the last few years, to make traveling easier, she attended the Girdner Union Church.

She loved to cook and spoil everyone who walked into her café. Customers may have come in as strangers, but they left as friends.

She is survived by her children, Bill Porter of the home in Squires, and Joyce Strollo of Florida; two grandsons, Mark and Bruce Strollo; many nieces, nephews and cousins and a host of relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, William Guy and Leslie Long.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Gideons or to Murray Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed at clinkingbeardfuneralhome.com.
