Samuel Allan ‘Sam’ Kirkland, 23

Funeral services for Samuel Allan “Sam” Kirkland, 23, of Caulfield, were held Aug. 19, 2019, at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home in West Plains. Mr. Kirland died Aug. 15 near Salem and Viola, Arkansas.

He was born Nov. 1, 1995, in West Plains, the son of Bob Kirkland and Cindy Hardcastle Kirkland. He graduated from Bakersfield High School in 2014 and was active in the agriculture classes. He studied welding at the South Central Career Center. He had worked at Ozark Regional Stockyards and was a farmer.

Known as Sam to family and friends, Mr. Kirkland was usually the life of the party wherever he went, always telling a joke or a story and making everyone laugh. He was someone who never knew a stranger and would talk to everyone and anyone. And if anyone wanted to talk about cattle, he was that person’s best friend.

Sam loved God, and loved his family and friends. He loved being a cattleman and hunting. He would go out of his way to help everyone he knew, and he always made it a point to stop by and see his old friends and meet new ones at the local county livestock shows. He was a member of the Church of Christ and attended Gospel Hill Church of Christ.

He is survived by his parents, Bob and Cindy Kirkland of Caulfield; three brothers, Rickey Kirkland and wife Courtney of Diamond, Michael Kirkland and wife Lisa of Caulfield and Robbie Kirkland and wife Hannah of Republic; one nephew, Bryson Kirkland; one niece, Melody Kirkland; his aunts, Nancy Kirkland of Festus, Colorado, Barbara Kirkland of Kansas City,  Joyce Kirkland of Caulfield, Mary Ruth Kirkland of West Plains and Paula Davenport of Mountain Home, Arkansas; one uncle, Charles Hardcastle of Flippin, Arkansas; several cousins; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charlie and Chloe Kirkland, and Leith and Cecil Hardcastle; seven uncles and one aunt.

Burial was in the Elijah Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association and may be left at the funeral home.
