Funeral services for Mearl Tilman Satterfield, 85, of Sparta,  former long-time resident of Ozark County, were held  Sept. 11, 2018, at the Lilly Ridge General Baptist Church in Gainesville.  Mr. Satterfield died Sept. 5 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mount Vernon, where he had lived for two years.

He was born Dec. 16, 1932, in Isabella, the son of Claud and Lois Haskins Satter-field. On Dec. 29, 1956, in Springfield, he married Beulah Friend.

He joined the Army in 1953 and served during the Korean Conflict until 1955, stationed in Louisiana and Kansas. In 1959, he and Mrs. Satterfield moved to the Tecumseh area, where he was an electrician/plumber by trade. He was a well-known gardener, raising several acres of sweet corn each year. He also raised beef cattle on their farm and was very active at Lilly Ridge General Baptist Church for many years.

He was an avid fisherman and participated in tournaments, with many trophies to show for his efforts. He loved stream/creek fishing and spent many hours on the banks of the North Fork of the White River.

He is survived by Beulah Satterfield of Sparta, his wife of almost 63 years; one daughter and her family, Karen Livingston and husband Doug and their son Austin, all of Springfield, and one son and his family, Roger Satterfield and wife Kimberly (Arnall) and their daughters Michaela and Katelyn, all of Oldfield; and six siblings: Jesse Satterfield of Excelsior Springs, Charles Satterfield of Wasola, Betty Moon of Leesburg, Georgia, Glen Satterfield of Grain Valley, Hervil Satterfield of Adrian and Willa Sue Campbell of Springfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Nina Marie.

Burial was in the Lilly Ridge Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lilly Ridge General Baptist Church.
