Macel Jefferson, 90

Macel Jefferson, 90

Funeral services for Macel Jefferson, 90, of Gainesville, were held Dec. 21, 2018, at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Gainesville with Brother David Tierce officiating. Full military honors directly followed the service. Mr. Jefferson died Dec. 18 at Gainesville Health Care Center.

He was born June 24, 1928, in Douglas County, the son of Winton and Tavie Barnes Jefferson. On May 20, 1946, he married Betty Case. Together they built a life filled with love for their family. During his life, Mr. Jefferson spent time picking apples in Washington State, owned a milk route and was a roofer, insulator, finish carpenter, bus driver and all-around handyman. He was a skilled craftsman who could do anything he put his hand to. He enjoyed whittling, painting, leather working, playing the guitar and writing songs. A builder/construction worker by trade, he answered God’s call to preach in 1959, and during the next 35 years he pastored churches in California, Oregon, Montana, Missouri and Arkansas. At his passing, he was a member of Bridges Creek Baptist Church in Elijah.

The family shared the message that life is fleeting and death comes to all, “but while we grieve his passing from this life, we can rejoice in his testimony of eternal life in Christ. And for those who share the gift of salvation, there is assurance that we will see him again.”

He is survived by his children, Shari Maillet and Eric Jefferson; 10 grandchildren: Geoff Graham, David Tierce, Lisa Clemenson, Daniel Tierce, Dustin Tierce, Lyndi Graham, Matthew Jefferson, Joshua Jefferson, Aaron Jefferson and Seth Jefferson; 16 great-grandchildren; his brother, Delmos Jefferson; and a host of friends and relatives across the country, including his dear friend Lyndell Strong of Gainesville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; by Betty, his wife of 47 years; a daughter, Terrie; and four siblings.

Burial will be in Brushy Knob Cemetery in Douglas County.
