Kenneth Crabtree, 77

Funeral services for Kenneth Leroy Crabtree, 77, of Albany, Georgia, were held April 10, 2018, at First Free Will Baptist Church in Albany with the Rev. Billy D. Hanna officiating. Mr. Crabtree died April 6 at Wynfield Health and Rehabilitation Center in Albany. 
He was born July 18, 1940, in Baxter County, Arkansas, the son of Richard and Eula Wray Crabtree. He grew up near West Plains and attended the School of the Ozarks in Point Lookout. He moved to Albany in 1962 and graduated from Berry College in Rome, Georgia.  He received his master’s degree from Valdosta University and his six-year degree from Troy State University in Troy, Alabama.
Mr. Crabtree was a Fulbright Scholar and made several trips to India with that program. He was a teacher for 35 years at Merry Acres Middle School and Radium Springs Middle Magnet School of the Arts and also served as a truant officer for DCSS.  
He was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church, where he taught the Fellowship Sunday school class.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Nunnelley Crabtree of Albany; a daughter, Sheila C. Whittenberg and husband William of Berlin, Germany; two grandchildren, Erich Whittenberg and Isabelle Whittenberg, also of Berlin; two brothers, Hervil Crabtree and wife Carol, and Roy Crabtree and wife Rita, all of Mexico, Missouri; his best buddy, Pat Collier of Albany; and several Ozark County relatives including first cousins Jimmy Poe and Bernie Poe.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Eula Wray Crabtree Goyer, and his step-father, Orval Goyer.
Burial was in Crown Hill Cemetery near Albany. Memorial contributions may be made to First Free Will Baptist Church, 420 N. Westover Blvd., Albany, GA 31707.
