Kenneth ‘Levi’ Slaughter, 80

A memorial service for Kenneth Wayne “Levi” Slaughter, 80, of Gainesville, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 23, 2018, at Peace Lutheran Church, 581 County Road 1175 in Mountain Home, Arkansas. Lunch will be served following the service. Mr. Slaughter died peacefully in his sleep on May 4 in West Plains.
He was born Nov. 4, 1937, in Rising Star, Texas, the son of Billy Slaughter and Frances Mills. He grew up in Texas and enlisted in the Army during the Korean conflict. In the late 1980s, he moved to Snowflake, Arizona, where he established himself as a master fence builder, marking his barbed-wire fences with horseshoes on the corner posts. On Nov. 9, 2002, in Pinetop, Arizona, he married Deborah Piper, and they formed Rising Star Fence Co. and worked side by side building fences all over the White Mountains. In 2005, they expanded to become Rising Star Fence and Cattle Co. when they purchased a small herd of Texas longhorns, fulfilling Mr. Slaughter’s lifelong dream. In 2015 they moved to Ozark County.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah, of the family home at Gainesville; three stepchildren who affectionately called him ‘Daddy Ken’: Dan Robbins and wife Sheryl of Greenville, South Carolina, and Lisa Robbins and Sheri Hudson, both of Texas; and a half-brother, Ron Long and wife Beverly of Lubbock, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son Tommy Dale Slaughter.
