James Roy Sallee, 72
Graveside services for James Roy Sallee, 72, of Ava, formerly of Thornfield, were conducted Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2017, at Thorn-field Cemetery on Highway 95 at Thornfield. Mr. Sallee died Oct. 13 with his family by his side at the Ava Place Residential Care Center, where he had lived for almost two years.
He was born Sept. 15, 1945, near Longrun, the son of Roy and Elma Kastning Sallee. He was raised in the Thornfield area, where hunting and fishing with his family were a big part of his life. He also enjoyed spending time making leather belts for his grandchildren. He was a hard worker who was employed at Baxter Lab in Mountain Home, Arkansas, for many years. Later he moved to Ava, which made driving to his next job at MansSteel in Mansfield more convenient.
On Sept. 13, 1980, in Goodhope, he married Bonnie Mackey.
He is survived by Bonnie, his wife of 37 years; step-son Mike Nelson and step-daughter Kathy Matney; two sisters, Elaine Edwards and Barbara Wilson and husband Robert; his grandchildren and many nieces and nephews; a host of other friends, relatives and fellow Ava Place residents and staff members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Bob and Billie and three infant siblings; and two step-grandchildren, Nathan and Joe.
Memorials contributions may be made to the Neighbor Helping Neighbor program or to the Thornfield Cemetery and may be left at the funeral home. Condolences may be expressed on the Ava Family Funeral Home Facebook page.
