James Eugene Terry, 78

Funeral services for James Terry, 78, of Gainesville, were held June 25, 2018, at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Gainesville with Dale Roberts officiating. Mr. Terry died June 22at his home.
He was born June 15, 1940, in Oakland, Arkansas, the son of John Raymond and Ruth M. Huelsenbeck Terry. He graduated from Gainesville High School in 1959 and then joined the Navy and trained as an electronic technician. During this time he married Sheron Elliott, and they had one son, Darren Eugene Terry.
He then moved to Kansas City, where he started working in electronics but eventually ended up in supervision. He also worked at NASA in Houston, Texas, for one year.
While living in Kansas City, he met Carolyn Browning, the love of his life. They were married April 16, 1987, and in 1989 they moved back to Gainesville.
Mr. Terry enjoyed gardening, and what he didn’t use he gave away to family and friends. He also enjoyed playing his guitar with family and friends and teaching others how to play.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Terry of the home; one son, Darren Terry and wife Dionna of Manteca, California; one brother, Kenneth Terry and wife Carol of Gainesville; two sisters, Pat Hackler and husband Lee of Alma, Arkansas, and Dian Luna and husband Ron of West Plains; and several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six uncles and one aunt.
Burial with full military honors was in the Price Place Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to Price Place Cemetery.
