Funeral services for Ina Gertrude Cockrum, 93, of Gainesville, will be held at 2 p.m. today, May 8, 2019, at Clinking-beard Funeral Home in Gainesville with Dale Roberts officiating. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to service time today at the funeral home. Mrs. Cockrum died May 3 at the Gainesville Health Care Center.

She was born March 23, 1926, in Oakland, Arkansas, the daughter of David Lawrence and Laura Zona Lantz Taylor. She grew up around Oakland and graduated from Gainesville High School. On July 7, 1950, in Mountain Home, Arkansas, she married Doyle Cockrum. 

The couple moved to Wichita, Kansas, to find work. While there, Mrs. Cockrum worked for Boeing Aircraft. Around 1958, they moved their family back to Gainesville, and Mrs. Cockrum went to work for the Selective Service. After many years there, she then worked for Production Credit Association.

After retirement from that job, she became postmaster at the Noble post office.

For many years, Mrs. Cockrum attended church at Calvary Baptist in Gainesville. She was saved and baptized there when she was in her 60s. She loved her family and adored her kids and grandkids. She loved shopping and camping. Some of her favorite times were spent with friends, playing and listening to bluegrass music on camping trips.

She is survived by one daughter, Sherri Wilson and husband Rod of Gainesville; six grandchildren, Dustin Hudson and wife Renee, Mindi Lawson and husband Andy, Kase Wilson and wife Blakely, Kyle Wilson and wife Uzma, Ellie Cockrum, and Josh Cockrum; three great-grandchildren, Colton Lawson, Rhett Lawson and Luke Wilson; her sister, Nadine Johnson; her brother-in-law, Bill Cockrum and wife Lana; her sister-in-law, Ann Kruse; her daughter-in-law, Dianne Cockrum; and several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Doyle Cockrum; her son, Craig Cockrum; her brother, Chester Taylor; and three infant sisters.

Burial will be in the Lilly Ridge Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Three Rivers Hospice or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
