Helen Ophelia Melott, 95

Funeral services for Helen Ophelia Melott, 95, of Gainesville, Texas, were held Sept. 15, 2018, at Meador Funeral Home in Gainesville with Dr. Bennie Slack officiating. Mrs. Melott died Sept. 12. 

She was born Jan. 20, 1923, in Foster, Oklahoma, the daughter of J.A. and Henny May Skaggs Whitt. On May 26, 1951, in Lindsay, Oklahoma, she married Herbert Royce Melott.

She was a school librarian, and after retirement she volunteered her time to the library in the First Baptist Church in Gainesville, where she was a member. 

She lived for a while in Gainesville, Missouri, to be near her niece, Pat Crawford.

She is survived by one brother, Paul Whitt and wife Lucy of Eagle Town, Oklahoma, and several nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in heart.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, Bob Whitt and Patrick Eugene Whitt, and one sister, Edith Tannehill.
