Hazel B. Vette, 81
Memorial services for Hazel B. Vette, 81, recently of Theodosia, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 23, 2019, at the Hill Top Church in Thornfield. Mrs. Vette died April 10 at Gainesville Health Care Center in Gainesville.
She was born June 29, 1937, at McCune Brooks Hospital in Carthage, the daughter of Loren and Mildred Harrington Hood. She grew up in the country around Alba, Missouri, where she attended school. In high school she met Vernon Vette Sr. They were married May 28, 1955 and soon afterward they moved to Trona, California, where they raised their five children. Mrs. Vette stayed at home, caring for the children until 1970, when she started working at Ridgecrest Hospital as a nurse’s aide. She then went on to become a physical therapy assistant and worked in that field until she retired in 1992.
In 1994, she and her husband moved to Theodosia, where they lived approximately eight years. They moved out of Ozark County but still resided in Missouri, and in 2014 they moved back to Theodosia, where Mrs. Vette lived out the rest of her life.
She loved the Lord and loved reading her Bible. She also loved baking, camping, crocheting and working on puzzles. She especially loved to play cards and games with friends, children and grandchildren. She had a good sense of humor and was a little feisty at times.
She is survived by her husband, Vernon Vette Sr., who resides at Gainesville Health Care Center; her five children, Deborah Grantham and husband Mike of Weaubleau, Vernon Vette Jr. of Grain Valley, Elizabeth Perreira of Rancho Cucamonga, California, Victoria Cook and husband Ben of Theodosia, and Allan Vette of Lawrence, Kansas; 115 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Roberta Mix; and one brother, Donald Hood.
A plaque bearing Mrs. Vette name will be placed on the memorial wall at the Lutie Cemetery in Theodosia.
