Harold L. Maine Jr.

A graveside memorial service for Harold Leroy Maine Jr., 68, of Gainesville, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2018, in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery near Udall with Curtis Tackitt officiating. Mr. Maine died Nov. 25 at his home.

He was born May 25, 1950, in Boise, Idaho, the son of Harold Leroy Maine Sr. and Elener Fry Maine. He grew up in Bakersfield and graduated from Bakersfield High School in 1969. He spent most of his life as an over-the-road, big-rig truck driver. On Sept. 6, 1991, he married Hope Lease. The couple moved to Gainesville in the early 1990s. 

After his retirement, Mr. Maine, nicknamed “Harold the Great,” enjoyed being at home with his wife and his canine friends Blacky, Bootsy and Joy. He loved to fish, visit with family and friends, and watch TV.

He is survived by his wife, Hope Maine, of the home in Gainesville; his siblings, Chrystina Johnston and husband Fred of Bakersfield, Phillip Maine and wife Bennie of Lincoln, Nebraska, James Maine of Jackson, Tennessee, and Elnona Hall and husband Richard of Torrington, Connecticut; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and great-great nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister-in-law, Patty Maine.
