Charlotte Coatney Hanks, 82

Charlotte Coatney Hanks, 82

Funeral services for Charlotte Coatney Hanks, 82, of Mountain Home, Arkansas, were held June 19, 2020, at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Gainesville with Dale Roberts officiating. Mrs. Hanks died June 14 at her residence.

She was born April 7, 1938, in Elk Creek, the daughter of Charles Edward and Daisy Lillian Atchison Coatney. She attended school at the one-room school at Caney.

On Feb. 5, 1972, in Seminole, Texas, she married Darrel Hanks. They lived in Hobbs, New Mexico, for several years and moved to Mountain Home in spring 1997. They purchased Sealco Manufacturing in Mountain Home from Mrs. Hanks’ sister, Elva Beard, who had started the business with her husband, Hugh Tan, and took over operation of the business after her husband’s death. After Darrell Hanks’ death, Mrs. Hanks continued to visit the business every day until her declining health made it impossible in March 2020.

She was a Christian woman who was baptized in her earlier years when she lived in Hobbs, New Mexico.

She grew up in Caney Mountain Conservation Area, where her father worked. She worked hard her whole life, from the time she was young working on the wildlife refuge milking cows to feed baby deer, to working in retail and serving in restaurants as an adult. She was dedicated to her family, working two jobs on occasion to make sure her children had the care they needed. She loved everybody and was never selfish. She loved animals, nature and gardening as well. She also loved to cook, and she was good at it, as those who gathered at her home for Thanksgiving could attest. She and her husband collected antiques as one of their many hobbies. Everybody who knew Charlotte loved her.

She is survived by her daughter, Regina D’Manincor of Mountain Home; grandchildren Allison Charlotte Johnson of Mountain Home, Richard Fallis, and Sarah Petty and husband O’Rion, all of Clovis, New Mexico; siblings Margie Gann of Licking, Dick Coatney and wife Ann of Gainesville, Elva Beard of Mountain Home, Fredia Dodson of Great Bend, Kansas, Leveta Turley and Retha Friend, both of Basehor, Kansas, Denver Coatney and wife Doris of Gainesville and Charles “Chuck” Coatney of Isabella; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell; her parents; one son, Shane Johnson; an infant brother, Troy Allen Coatney; brothers-in-law James Gann, Hugh Tan Beard, Lyle Dodson, Donald Turley and Bernon Friend.

Burial was in Smith Chapel Cemetery.

Arrangements by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville.
