Funeral services for Alvalene Crownover Matthew, 80, of Gepp, Arkansas, were held Oct. 30, 2018, at Whiteville Baptist Church in Gassville, Arkansas, with Brother Larry Ring officiating. Mrs. Matthew died Oct. 26 in Gepp.

She was born Jan. 16, 1938, in Gassville, the daughter of Eugene and Virble Inez Reed Crownover. She moved with her family to Ozark County in 1956, and on June 30, 1957, in Cleveland, Mississippi, she married Ancel Ray Matthew Sr. in a double wedding with their best friends, Bernis and Nina Willbanks Blair. A story about the two couples’ misadventures on their wedding weekend was published in the July 18, 2012, edition of the Times.

Mrs. Matthew spent her working years as a press operator for Tyson Print Shop and was a member of the Whiteville Baptist Church in Gassville. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and friend.

Survivors include three sons, Ray Matthew Jr. and wife Sherry of Agnos, Arkansas, Tom Matthew and wife Teresa of Lincoln, Arkansas, and Ed Matthew and wife Cathy of Viola, Arkansas; two daughters, Gayla Matthew and Dana Littleford and husband Ron, all of Gepp; 19 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one brother, Jerry Crownover and wife Judy of Everton; one sister, Carol Tucker and husband Ernie of Springfield; many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, an infant sister and a daughter-in-law, Wilma Matthew.
Burial was in the Whiteville Cemetery in Gassville, Arkansas. Memorial contributions may be made to the Whiteville Cemetery Association. Online condolences may be expressed at barkerfuneral.com.
