Ozark County schools 2016-17 schedule updates

Area schools are preparing for the upcoming 2016-2017 school year. Here are some scheduling updates:
<strong>Bakersfield –</strong> Registration for all new students will be Aug. 10-11. Open house will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18. (This is a school year open house and not the grand opening celebration that will be held later when the new high school building is completed.) The first day of classes will be Monday, Aug. 22. No back-to-school fair is planned this year, and unlike in some previous years, the PTO is unable to provide supplies for all elementary students. Donations of school supplies from the community are welcome; call the school for more information (284-7333). Supply lists are available on the school’s website (www.bakersfield.k12.mo.us) under “Resources” and also at area Wal-mart stores.  
<strong>Dora –</strong> Registration is from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Aug. 11-12. Open house is from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16. Classes begin Aug. 18. The Dora Back to School Fair will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 13, in the school cafeteria. The event offers free clothing, shoes, haircuts and other services for Dora students. All required school supplies for students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade are being donated directly to the school again this year courtesy of Back to School Basics of Ozark County. Anyone wishing to donate clothing or funds for this year’s fair is asked to contact Teri Shipley at 417-712-1027 or Shanna Barnett at 417-293-7471. <strong>Gainesville –</strong> Classes start in Gainesville Schools on Aug. 17. Supply lists for elementary students are posted on the school’s website: Gainesville.mo.schoolwebpages.com.
Registration for returning students will be Aug. 2, with seniors registering at 8 a.m., juniors at 9 a.m., sophomores at 10 a.m., freshman at 11 a.m., eight graders at 1 p.m. and seventh graders at 2 p.m. New students may register anytime from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 3.
The Ozark County Health Department, which organizes the Gainesville Back to School Fair, says details about this year’s fair will be announced soon; watch the Ozark County Times for updates. Meanwhile, donations are being requested to help provide supplies at the fair for students in need. To donate, make checks payable to Gainesville Back to School Fair and mail to OCHD at P.O. <strong>Lutie –</strong> Classes begin Aug. 22. Student registration is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 9-10. A back-to-school fair is being planned; watch the Ozark County Times for updates. The school will provide supplies for kindergarten through fifth-grade students. Donations of these supplies for the students are welcome and can be dropped off at the school from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays. School supply lists are available in the school office and are posted at area Wal-mart stores. For more information, call the school at 417-273-4150. The school’s website is lutieschool.org.
<strong>Thornfield –</strong> School starts Friday, Aug. 19, with classes releasing on the first day at 12:30 p.m. Open house will be from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18. Student registration is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9. School supply lists are available at the school. They’re also posted at Wal-mart and at Dollar General in Theodosia.
